As we enter Fall, it’s time to prepare for Winter and plan for Spring.
For your house: do you have a plan for freezing weather? Remember to insulate your external hose bibs and any pipes that are in an uninsulated space. If your sink is on an exterior wall, leave your cabinets open during a winter freeze and let your faucets drip slowly. Consult your plumber or other professionals for more tips on keeping your home safe during a cold snap.
For your yard: Fall is a great time to plant perennials! Consider updating your landscape with plants that need less water and care. Consult your local nursery to find native and adapted plants that will make your garden less “thirsty” and more convenient. Remember to winterize your irrigation system. A broken irrigation pipe may deliver an unpleasant surprise on your water bill next Spring.
