Monitor Your Outdoor Water Use

dog biting water hoseOver half of residential water is used outdoors! We have our warm and dry summer days coming up.  What can you do to manage your outdoor water consumption (and your water bill)?

Use only the irrigation water you need to keep your plants healthy. For average weather and average soils, lawns require only about 1” per week. Use a tuna can to measure the amount of water your sprinkler is delivering.  If you have an irrigation system, make sure it is functioning properly – clogged or broken sprinkler heads can cause big water bills!
